Show APPLICATION STUDIES OF ADVANCED COMBUSTION SYSTEMS -INTRODUCTION Most modern combustion systems have been developed in response to needs in industry to lower costs through efficiency and productivity improvements. It still takes a significant amount of time following research and development for new combustion technologies to be accepted by industry. Acceptance is accelerated through field testing or through the purchase and application of the new equipment by a progressive furnace operator. This session reports on some of the commercial successes of new, innovative combustion equipment and the benefits that they bring. Application case studies and industry surveys are presented with the purpose of informing industry of the availability of new technology and with the intention of directing future combustion equipment development to satisfy industry needs. Application of modern equipment and continued development will help industry meet its competitive challenges. Efficient combustion, improved quality, and effective heat transfer are important to the industries and processes addressed in this session, which include the glass, steel, and chemical industries, and the heat treat, steel reheat, and liquid heating processes.
