( Testimony of Buckskin Charley. ,- Buckskin Charley being first duly sv/orn makes the following\g<uarte ment regarding the death of Chief Ouray: Quas, Buckskin Charley did you know Chief Ouray? Ans. Yes. Quas. V/'ere you with him on his last visit to Ignacio? Ans. Ye s. Ques. Did he die at Ignacio? Ans. Yos. He died right at the Ignacio Agency. Ques. Were you v/ith him at tha time of his death? Ans. Yes. Ques. At what time of year did ha die? Ans. Summer. Ques. what other Indians were with you and Chief Ouray whan ha dia d? Ans. There were quite a few Indians there when Chief Ouray died, but only a fow are now living. Thare were some Northern Utes with us when Ouray died. The Southern Utes who were there when Chief Ouray died and who are now living are Colorow, Joseph Price and myself. McCook was also with us. LioCook is tha brother of Ouray's wife, Chipeta. Ques. After Chief Ouray's death what did you do with his body? Ans. ^fter he died we wrapped his body in n9W blankets and buffalo robes and than tied cords and ropes aro end it and placad it on a horse. After placing tha body upon a hor39, Uathan Price, a Southern Ute, told us that his father Chief Suvata, was buried in the rocks, about two miles South of Ignacio, and this would be a fitting place to bury Chief Ouray, thus placing the two Chiefs togeraar. It is because many people who are telling these things about Chief Ouray do not understand what they ara talking about. fhsy were not with him when he died and they were not at his burial.
