Tha records show that there haye been ten coal sales of the lands classified as ooal, at the-appraised prices and that the amounts received therefrom have been ocrsatad. into the Treasury to the credit of the Indians.. By telegram dated October 18,1920 (IU" WHL), this office instructed"'the' district land office that the ceded Uintah lands were subject to the mineral leasing act of February 25, 1920 fll Stat., 437). It is believed that such act is now. applicable to tha lands which have bean included in the forest reservation. It does not appear that there has been any with-drawal of the ceded lands since 1905 for forestry or other public purposes, except as^ above stated, with the exception of certain lands which were withdrawn for .reclamation purposes, and with the further exception of the S3£ S2* Sac. 19 and Slit S"l£ Sac. 20, T. 1 B., R. 8 W. , which was withdrawn on February 8, 1903, as the Duchesne ranger station, and of the H3* Sec. 27, T. 2 3., -R. 12 W., withdrawn on December 21, 1906, as the Strawberry ranger station. The tracts withdrawn for the Duchesne ranger station are within the area selected by the Secretary on July 11, 1905, as a o-raaing reserve and the tract withdrawn as the Strawberry ranger station is within that portion withdrawn for irrigation purposes uaader the act of March 3, 1905 (33 Stat., 1070) , -6- |
