Martin, formerly Superintendent of the Uintah and Ouray School, regarding the obligation of the United States to Chipeta, on account of valuable services rendered by her husband, Chief Ouray, in preserving peace between the Uncompahgre Utes and the whites during frontier days, and also concerning the needs of Chipeta for material assistance at the present time. The possible claim of Chipeta seems to me to merit careful consideration.
