Show M |J Tuesday. I explained to the Indians that I am not opposed to a flour mill, but that I can not see how it can be located in a manner beneficial to all. We have Indians who are farming 60 miles west of Jhiterocks. Obviously these Indians would not haul their //heat any such distance to a flour mill. The fact is, we have no point centrally located, to which any large percentage of our Indians could haul their './heat. Our reservation does not lie In a body. It lies in many small tracts scattered over a territory 75 miles from east to west and 51 miles from north to south. Furthermore there are several good grist mills already established in this Basin, operated by private companies. I enplained this matter to the Indians in council and I believe that they will vrilthdraw their request for this flour mill. He mentions the grazing land,, and expresses the fear that the white men will deprive the Indians of this reserve. This matter already received the attention of the Commissioner, and a copy of a letter written by the Commissioner to the Honorable Joseph Howell, was read in council last Tuesday. I believe the Indians are satisfied no// that they are not in immediate danger |
