C. Dear Sir: ••-..-- I am in receipt of a letter from Hon. John _?. Shafroth, United States Senator, of Colorado, wherein your lir. FILED 37 4, C. P?; For your information, I might add that it has been the custom of these Indians for several years past, to form their hunting parties, leave the Reservation, fthey usually have permits from the Indian Agents) and come into Colorado, in the vicinity of piceance, and lower Douglas Creeks, Rio 31anco County. These Indians seem to know at just what time the deer, from tho northern districts, travel down to their winter feeding grounds, and they seem to have no difficulty in taking oot all the deer, that their facilities will permit. Undor our laws,, v/e have no open season on door, and this Department is putting Forth every possible- effort to minimize the killing of these animals. • w - |
