Revised Statutes, provides: No person employed in Indian alTnirs phn.ll li:ivo any interest- or concern in any trade, with tho Indians, except for and on account of tho United Stated ; mid any person offending herein, shall bo liable to a penalty of flvo thousand do'lrinf, and shall ho removed from his office. Tho attention of all employees in tho Indian Service is rim-clod lo Die punitive provisions of this statute. A proper observance of official propriety further demands that no employee of the Indian Service shall have any interest or concern, except for and on account, of tho United States, in any sale of lands made by or for or on behalf of any Indian or citizen Indian. Nor shall any cmployco of tho Indian Service bo permitted to enter or becomo interested in any of the public lands of the United States acquirod by purchase or cession from Indians, or that aro subject to disposal for the benefit of Indians.
