Show II - 2 - i) ommend that the organisation of the Bishop be taken over at one e. In fact the Episcopal Mission could not, except at heavy expense, begin active operations until they were permitted to take over the Uintah School with its stores and supplies, Bishop Spalding has said that he was willing and ready to defray the expenses of the employees for a reasonable period - say from August 15th to September 1st, but I cannot see how the school could otherwise have been maintained unless it had the status of a Government School It v/ill be remembered that the Episcopal Board of General Missions refused to assist Bishop Spalding in this enterprise, and, therefore, all expense connected therewith, until the school became a Government school, fell upon Bi3hop Spalding personally, and for this reason I have believed it proper to relieve him of expanse wherever possible. Very respectfully, Captain 5th. Cavalry, CG2-CWD. Acting U. S. Indian Agent". |
