Sir: Referring to your communication of the 7th ultimo, "Land 97309, 1905," relative to the matter of the Uintah Toll Road Company in which, among other things,it is stated that it v/ill bt, necessary to bring the matter to the attention of the Indiana concerned, and to examine fully into the matter and make report thereon, I have the honor to state that I have investigated the question fully and believe that the establishment of the Toll ROF-KI in question would be of material benefit to the Indians themselves and to the eountry in general. I have had separate councils with the Uintahs and V/hite Rivers, and the Uncompahgre Indians relative to their desires in the premises, and with the exception of a few dissenting Y/hite Rivers, all Indians zxresent at tiie councils seemed willing to have the road opened as a Toll Road, and the majority of them,- especially the Uncompahgres, who are the Indians most directly effected,- were very eager for the road. Under previous authoilty for the said company to use the road in connection with the supplying of the War Department, |
