Show DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR. UNITED STATES INDIAN SERVICE, Uinta and Ouray Agency, White Rocks, Utah, Jan. 8, 1903 Hon. Corrdssioner Indian Aif airs , Washington, D. C. Sir: I write you in reference to the Uncornpahgre Indians who were not allotted by th e Co;.raission appointed in 1897, for that purpose. The reason that they were not allotted was that the Indians at that time refused to take their allotments, but they are now willing and anxious to do so, and in a council I held with them a short time a go they requested me to ask you to send an alloting agent here for that purpose. And I recommend that you do so, as there is some probabillity of the Uinta Resrevation being opened for settlement, and thesebUncomphaare Indians have no home Xnatever unless they are allotted on the Uinta Eeservat Ion. They do not ijant to go to any other part of Utah to live. I -vill he glad if you will tell me as soon as possibke whar. action you will take on this rec oilmen da'.ion as the Indians are anxious to know a&bout it. Very respectfully, z^y. y x^\^, U. S.
