Dea.r Sir: The u.nd or signed members or' the Sub-Committee of the Senate Committee on Ind.ian Affairs having under consideration Senate Bill ho . 93, introduced by Mr. Rawlins and relating to the Uintah Indian Reservation in Utah (this reservation embracing about three million (3,000,000) acres of land occupied, by less than eight hundred (300) Indians) believing that this reservation should be opened on terms just to the Indians and. consented to by them, beg leave to suggest, with the concurrence of Senator Rawlins, that Inspector Major B. 0. McLaughlin be directed hy you to visit these Indians during the present summer, and if possible bring about r.n agreement with them on equitable terms for the cession to the Government of lands not needed for allotment to said Indians. 1 That the Inspector be also instructed to inquire into and report as to the actual anmber, -progrosri .ami -aoirli.
