Show Statement of Sir-e-outs, concerning the killing of the Certain Indian in Colorado, in October 1897. Sir-e-outs being duly dworn according to the law and on her Oath s says. T. am sixty six years old and belong to the White River Ute tribe of Indians. I went with a company of Indians to Colorado in October. ..y<"i i >-. We were camped in a little dssia. on the side of a hill. There were five squaws in our camp when the cow boys came and three men and tehn^my son A>.x7.y'"-K-Sow- er-a-nunche-kent came, and two of the men soon ran away and also three of the squaws- I do not know just when Su-gut-she-one Starr came but he cane pretty soon after the cow boys did, I vras so excited for fear they would b*j my son that I do not remember very well when lie came- //- Yum-butz came in quite a while after the cow boys cane . All tine the cow boys were there. I was watching my son fearing they night get him, and did not pay much attention to the other Indians. Saw a cow boy walk up to Yum-butz and take hold of his horse's bridle, and after I did not see him much. At no tine while the cow boys were there did I or an;/ of the other Indians have any guns or pistols in tour: hands. And at no time did we attempt to shoot the white men. I do- not know how I got IF-* • shot. I saw the men start towards my son and shoved one of the-cray with my bare hands begging them not to.-hurt my son. Talking to then: in Indian. All white men were shooting. When they commence shooting my son fell on his face and started run a-ivay and fell under a cedar tree and did not khow that I was wounded, until I came to, and then I found that I was shot in arm. I cannot tell how many were there, there lots of them. |
