Show Hon. Commissioner, 5. present force be increased by one Company of Infantry, instead of being lessened. I am actuated in venturing these suggestions "oy ray desire for a peaceful and successful allotment and a friendly consolidation of the Indians, which can better be secured, I think, by having a force to nre vent any overt act being committed by a few illy balanced, unreasoning Indians who never have been "friendly" with Agency Control, than to a-wait the result of the teachings above referred to, without the power at hand to carry out the orders of the Department in any event. I will add.that'the Uintahs are quiet, they have not spoken in council against the allotment and favor the erection of houses and open ing of farms and the making of ditches. I enclose, herewith, a small article published in tiie Eastern Utah A.dvocate, of Price Utah, August 2Gth, 1807, which indicates, that even some of the Uintahs are "uneasy," but I do not attach any importance to the publication.
