"7v". - -vation contains 2,000,000 acres of land "Estimated", there is comparatively but a small portion of this land capable of cultivation for agricultural purposes. The valleys of the DuChesne and its tributaries referring to irrigable lands are usually narrow, When the time comes for locating the Utes of these Agencies under the Law upon lands by allotments, it will be no easy matter to find a sufficient number of tillable tracts for their accomo- -dation. The Uncompahgres have but very little agricultural land within the limits of their reservation, and will have to be provided for elsewhere, and it will prove of great advantage to .. the Government if the surplus irrigable lands of the Uintah Reservation are reserved as a resort for locating these Indians* There is a portion of the Uintah Reservation known at the ,,-X :-A/.*:'.I Commissioner's office as the"grazing strip", and now leased to , • < • • ! • .
