Show -4' to the Indians, in open council, the modified agreement for their ratification, as provided in the first section of the act, and in case o£ their ratification to appraise the improvements belonging to the Indians upon the lands surrendered, to take a census of trie Indians, to allot them lands in severalty, as provided in the Act, to superintend their removal, location and settlement en the lands set apart for them, as provided in the act. The requisite number of Indians signed the agreement between the 29th of July and the 11th of September, 1880, both days inclusive. The ratification of the agreement by the Utes was certified to the Secretary of the Treasury by tine Secretary of the Interior on the 24th of September 1380, and steps were ir.mediately taken to cause the money appropriated under the 4th olause of seotion 9 of the act, to be paid to the Indians. The agreement provides: "The said chiefs and headman of the confederated bands of Utes also agree and promise to use their best endeavors with their people to procure their consent to cede to the United States ail th? territory of the present Ute reservation in Colorado, except as hereinafter provided for their settlement." x x x x x r . x x x x x x . •The Uncompahgre Utes agree to remove to and settle upon agricultural lands on Grand River, near the mouth of the Gunnison Rive}*, in Colorado, if a sufficient quantity of |
