Show 2 The field notes of this survey are on file at, the Agency, but as the northern portion of tlie boundary line was triangulated, (this is the line in dispute,) it is impossible to identify the peaks referred to without the map of the survey. It is generally understood by the Indians, that the reservation included all land drained, by the Duchesne river and its tributaries. But many persons, desirous of obtaining a foothold, upon land embraced in the boundaries, dispute the claims of the Indians, and I have been able to find nothing authoritative upon the subject. Heretofore, a simple statement of the claims of the Indians, backed with a manifest intention to defend such claiTis, has sufficed. But now that the question has got into the cour"ts, the need of accurate and positive information is imperative. The map asked for is also very much needed in the proper prosecution of the work here in connection with the frequent tresspassing of whites upon the reservation. Very respectfully, U. S. In dian Agent. i •xxxu xxxt x x :H.I : JL. |
