Johnson Sr., and others, of Indian depredation at and near Henry's Fork, Wyoming, is at hand* In reply, I have the honor to say) that sc-i.-.a time ago I received a complaint signed, by 23 ndm-tsy of ..7. ? purport as above stated, viz., that the Indians frost this reservation hail killed the settlers cattle, refusing them admittance to their camps to examine the hides, which triey beamed to prevent recognition; that they had stolen horses do., that these things- had been going on for tiiree or four years, to which I immediately replied as herewith (copy enclosed). The most careful inquiry among these Indians, in council fails to show that they in their hunting ever visit that neighborhood in any considerable numbers, and 'aiey all bitterly deny any depredations of the kind spoken of. Bob Ridley, (my most trusted policeman) was up in that locality visiting a sister, who is married to a Mexican,(Phil Mass). Ridley killed two deer. Every one was friendly, and |
