Show (054) Brigham Young to Comm. Ind. Aff. Reel 897 July 25, 1853 Utah Territory Department of Indian Affairs Great Salt Lake City-July 25th 1853 Hon. George H. Manypenny Commissioner of Indian Affairs Washington City, D.C. Sir, Our monthly mail from the East, which arrived on the 21st inst. brought from your Office a circular, dated June 2nd, requiring a list of employees in my Superintendency as the appointment of competent persons, as Farmers and Merchants also a circular dated June 6th relating to forms of accounts, commutation, disbursements, etc; also a letter, dated June 6th notifying me of the appointment of Edward A. Bedell, in place of Jacob H. Holeman, the contents of all which are duly noted, and the requirements and suggestions will promptly and faithfully complied with, as speedily as circumstances will permit. Major Holeman is at present on his way (to) Carson Valley, but may be back before Mr. Bedell arrives. From the fact of there having been no appropriations until lately, to defray any expenses of this Superintendency the number of employees is very limited, still, as some of them reside quite a distance from this City, I shall not probably be able to furnish you the required list until my next report for the quarter ending September 30th. I hope you will find the a/cs, vouchers, and other papers |
