Sir: Referring to your letter of the H8th ultimo,advising this Office of the desire of the Southern Utes to remove to Utah,&c.,I have to say that upon the recommendation of this Office,the. Secretary of the Interior has granted authority.'for you to visit this City with an interpreter and two representative Indians of your Agency. Accordingly you will select two of the most influential Indians of the Southern Ute tribe,representative men,and report with thorn to-this Office as soon as the duties of your Agency will admit of your temporary absence. You will bring an interpreter with you. The object of the visit is to consult upon the question of the removal of the tribe from their present reservation to Utah or elsewhere as may seem desirable,and you will take that |
