Show 2- Aquila Nsbeker, Esq. will use his own discretion in determining where the prisoner or prisoners are to be delivered to you in Utah; and, if necessary, he may decide to deliver them to the United States Marshal in Colorado. Your instructions are not to interfere in any way, or permit any of your deputies to attempt to interfere in any way, with the custody of Hatch and such other Indians as General Scott may secure until General Scott voluntarily turns them over to you at some point to be designated by him. You will then see that they are imprisoned at the point in Utah designated by General Scott, if he shall so decide, and kept there until duly removed by proper legal process. In order that there may be no possible trouble from outsiders, you are further instructed to assist General Scott, and utilize your posse in doing so, in protecting from any violence whatsoever any Indians who surrender to him. You will, of course, duly furnish prisoners with transportation and subsistence, and charge the same in your regular account in the usual manner. Yours truly, • T. W. GREGORY, Attorney General |
