During the winter and also the late fell* and early spring, most all of those Indians inovo out of the alien Canyon district v; lth their sheep, goats " and horses for a more favorable rangGo SThey scatter over a large area of land, varying from a few miles " from the Allen Ccnyon to forty or fifty miles distant* ' Bierefora, ' during a considerable period of the school year, it " would be impossible to maintain a propor number J. n attendance at tho day school* As a general thing, Allen Canyon and surround in?; section has. a heavy snowfall and it is principally for this roason that' the Indians have to see& a uinter raiige for their stoolc* Allen Canyon is about 120 miles- distant from- a railroad over which supplies would have to bo shipped to the day school* She freight rates from the railroad point into Alien Canyon would he;, about ;; 2 « 5Q per hundred.
