Show The Desert Magazine Published Monthly at EL CENTRO, CALIFORNIA Norman Nevills' Desert Magazine Expedition visited this scenic spot Tuesday, June 19, 1945, on a 7-day run from Mexican Hat to Lee's Ferry. Members of the party are: Music Temple, piloted by Skipper Norman Neville Hidden Passage, piloted by Wayne McConkie San Juan, piloted by Don Bondurant Rainbow Trail, piloted by Frank Cooke and navigated by his bride Marjorie Cooke. This boat was known as the honeymoon special. Francis Marjorie Facquhar of Berkeley, California Alfred Bailey, director of Colorado Museum of Natural History Patricia (Pat) Bailey, Al's daughter Fred Brandeburg, Assistant curator of birds at the Colorado Museum of Natural History Weldon Heald, World War II major and architect of Altadena, California Father harold Baxter Liebler, founder and head of Saint Christopher's Episcopal Mission at Bluff, Utah Randall Henderson, Editor and publisher of Desert Magazine at El Centro, California Trip started at Mexican Hat June 16, and despite Norman Nevills daily prayers to Yogi, the god of the sandwaves, we did get wet occasionally. Weather has been perfect--we haven't seen a cloud since we started, Wayne McConkie's flapjacks are something to write home about. Four members of the party had impromptu duckings in the San Juan--but no casualties. Helluva swell trip. Yogi: |
