"This is the way marketing works! … and this is what Mexicans are." Using the framework of legal scholars Devon W. Carbado, and Mitu Gulati from their article the "Working Identity," my thesis explores how Latinx students negotiate their identities within the Business School setting. According to Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, all individuals should receive equal opportunity in the workplace and be protected from discrimination under the protected classes. Under Title VII workers should also be protected from disparate impact. Through interviews, this project explores the experiences of five Latinx students in the School of Business to understand if it is in fact neutral in setting, and if students feel like they are free from discrimination. Upon completion of this project, I hope to submit it to the administration in hopes of helping future Latinx students in their negotiation of institutional bias, while also making the School of Business aware of and accountable to their treatment of Latinx students |
