Show INTRODUCTION XIII RECREATION Ogden is a year-around recreation center. A wide diversity of pleasurable activity is offered winter and summer by both natural surroun dings and facilities created for the purpose. The nearby rugged mountains and their canyons hold a fascination for the fisherman, hiker, bridle-path devotee and motorist during summer months, and their deep snows offer a winter paradise to lovers of skiing, snow-shoeing, tobogganing and dog-racing. Cutter races are quite frequent in the winter time and boating and water skiing inthe summer is enjoyed on Pine View Lake 6 miles east of Ogden. One of the largest northwest of Ogden. migratory bird refuges in the world is located 35 miles The scenic beauty of Ogden Canyon is unsurpassed, its paved highway winding between rugged, pine-covered walls that tower hundreds of feet, at points rising almost perpendicularly from the highway. This beautiful canyon is the Summer Mecca for vacationists from far and near. There are numerous picnic areas for the public. Snow Basin, just 17 miles from the city through Ogden Canyon, is an outstanding summer and winter playground of the Intermountain West. It is now completed to a standard sufficiently providing recreation for thousands of citizens of this area. and a rope tow Basin contains Snow Basin was 1958.
