Show CALL TO ACTION The Trade Expansion Act, HR-99OO, has begun its trip throu gh the Congress with hearings first in · the House Ways and Means Com••· mittee. In his message to Congress, President Kennedy stated th a-c-, the present Trade Agreements Act must be replaced by a wholly new trade policy. HR-99OO is the administration's answer to the chal lenge of the ·European Common Market, the pressures · on our balance~-· ·of-payments -problem, the Soviet economic offensive, and the speci al needs of Japan and the developing nations. The decision on the bill rests now with Congress--and the American people. Senators and Representatives want to know the sincere, honest convictions of their constituents. At a luncheon recently Congressman King told League board members that a congres sman hesitates to vote against the tide of his mail; he likes to . feel that his constituents are backing him, that h~ is nbt stariding alone.
