Title A Mycenecan enviorment: an analyasys of textual and archaelogical data from the aegean, c1400 BCE-2023 CE
Date 2023
Description The historical climate of the Aegean is a topic that has become a focus among scholars as of late. In the face of anthropogenic climate change, the urge to look back to the past to see the outcome that climate had on the environment and how past people reacted to those events is strong. Looking to the past to see how the climate of the Aegean has shifted through the ages is the subject of this study. In this study I translated a selection of Linear B tablets from the palatial sites of Pylos, Knossos, and Mycenae. In addition, I translated selections from a group of texts from the Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman Period. I then examined these translations and compared them to relevant archaeological data. In turn, I compared the textual and archaeological data to data from the modern day in order to understand how agricultural production in the Aegean might have changed as a result of shifting climates.
