Description Sex, like death, has always been with us. Only in recent years, however, has it come from its hiding place behind the barriers of ignorance, misunderstanding, shame and embarrassment to be discussed more freely among educated men and women. It is only now becoming acceptable to give youth in school the sex education which most of the parents lacked. Historically the job of educating the American child in matters of sex was given not to one person but to many persons--the family doctor at times, the minister, the school nurse, the boy scout leader, and others whose work brought them in contact with children at a time when the sex drive was beginning to be felt. It is small wonder, then, that so much has been written and yet so little done in a scientific manner to discover the attitudes toward sexual matters and the related behavior patterns which the youth of today have followed.
