Description Citizens West is a newly-built development in Downtown Salt Lake City. This building was built by the Giv Group and is 100%. The Giv Group strives to build sustainable but affordable living. In order to determine ways to decrease prices, a digital twin of Citizens West was built, validated, and simulations were run in order to give energy-reducing recommendations. Total energy usage for the Citizens West residential building digital twin averages 78,463 kWh in the winter months and 56,439 kWh in the summer months. Using real world billing data provided by the Giv Group1, Citizens West building averages 78,907 kWh in the winter months and 57,000 kWh in the summer months. Using this real data and simulation data, the validated model falls within a 10% CV(RMSE) tolerance and 5% NMBE tolerance, according to ASHRAE building energy modelling standards for validation. The CV(RMSE) error between actual and model data is 9.55%, and the NMBE error between actual and model data is 0.81%. It was determined that the digital twin could yield a 9.75% total energy savings by implementing the following thermostat setpoints and would be recommended for future Giv Group development projects. The summer setpoint should be raised from 72 to 75 F and 79 to 81 F for at-home and away hours, respectively.
