Show Letters to the Editor I think it helps to differentiate-spasm of the near reflex (functional state)-from functional accommodative spasm (an unusual refractive problem)-from convergence excess. The paper that Dr. Schwartze wrote deals with a classic instance of spasm of the near reflex. I hbpe that helps clear up the matter a bit. I personally do not think an amytal interview is necessary to treat this problem, but the fact that it worked in their case was documented. Thanks again to both Dr. Schwartze and colleagues and to Dr. Viikari for reading the Journal of Clinical Neuro-ophthalmology! J.
