Description Colors -Red: Southern Utah's red rocks; -Blue: the Great Salt Lake and a nod to the current flag; -White: snow, the sego lily, and the Bonneville Salt Flats; -Gold: the beehive, commerce, and Utah's Olympic tradition. Central Hexagon Elements -Beehive: unique symbol associated with Utah representing industry and community; the hive also has five tiers representing the five native tribes of the state; -White inner hexagon: suggests a snowflake representing the greatest snow on earth and Utah's rich winter sports tradition; -Gold outer hexagon: suggestive of a gold medal representing the state's Olympic history and likely future -The Hexagon's background: red on the top half arching over the beehive representing Utah's grand arches, while the blue fill on the bottom half represents the Great Salt Lake; -White star: Utah's statehood; -The hexagon/beehive central element as a whole also functions as a still-symbolic and easily-recognizable stand alone icon for other graphical uses where the full flag may not be practical. Field Elements -The diagonal dividing lines represent Utah as the crossroads of the west; -The blue sides pay tribute to the blue field of the current flag; -The white section at bottom evokes Utah's snow-covered mountains with the hexagon creating an image of mountain peaks; -The striped gold and red section at top represents both the striations of Utah's famed red rocks as well as the rays of a desert sunset. Harmony with other Four-Corner flags: This design is also intended to tie in naturally with the flags of our neighbors (Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico) while remaining distinctive and easily-recognized. The simple top section echoes the more overt sun rays of the Arizona flag; the geometric central graphic reflects those of both Colorado and New Mexico, and every color is shared by at least one, if not all, of these neighboring flags.
