U.S. tar sand oil recovery projects--1985

Since crude oil prices declined in the early 1980's, U.S. tar sand activities have declined to a level approximating that of the early 1970's. Twenty of the 43 reported projects are in California reservoirs containing bitumen with relatively low viscosities. Only four current or planned projects are reported in states other than California. The data reported for each project include the operator name, project location, project status (completed, current, or planned), project type (commercial or pilot), recover technology, and reservoir and oil characteristics.
