Utah oil shale permits directory

National attention is currently being focused on the Green River Formation oil shale deposit located in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. The Uintah Basin of Northeastern Utah which overlies a portion of this oil shale deposit has been estimated to contain 50 billion barrels of recoverable shale oil. This amount represents approximately twice the amount of known U.S. petroleum reserves, greater than a seven-year U.S. oil supply at current consumption rates. Thus, the development of Utah oil shale as a synthetic fuel will represent a significant step towards developing domestic petroleum resources.
