Show LOGAN TABERNACLE The Tabernacle building is the oldest public structure in the city now in use. Construction was started in 1865 but the building was not completed until 1877. The stone for most of the building was quarried in Logan and Green Canyons east of here. The timber for the building was sawed in Logan Canyon; the people contributed their own labor and means toward its com pletion. The building and grounds are owned by the L. D. S. Church. LOGAN TEMPLE The Logan Temple, which is the outstanding monument of the city and entire valley, was also built by the people themselves. Construction was started in May, 1877. Like the Tabernacle building, the stone and timber for the building were obtained from Logan and Green Canyons. The building cost over one-half million dollars. Location for the Temple was selected by Presi dent Brigham Young who claimed it one of the finest he had ever seen. Visitors are welcome to go through the beautiful grounds and see an exceptionally large variety of trees, shrubs, plants and flowers. UTAH STATE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE The Utah State Agricultural College is located east of the Temple on a beautiful delta. It is one of America’s out standing land grant in stitutions. Founded in 1888, it was opened in 1890 for instruction with an enrollment of 139 students. Since then, the College has enjoyed a remarkable growth in building and students, especially dur-r ing the past few years. The 1937-38 enrollment totaled about 3000 stu dents. A new building for the Girls’ Dormitory is now under construc tion. Adjacent to the college campus a new $40,000.00 addition has been recently planned to the L. D. S. Seminary Building. The College has a total of thirty buildings, all modern, well lighted, heated and all carefully planned. Vtah State A gricu ltu ral C ollege 13 |
