Subject Visual Fields; High Intracranial Pressure/Headache; Miscellaneous
Description In 1865, Sir G.B. Airy, a British astronomer with impeccable observational skills, described the first classic account of the "scintillating scotoma" experienced during a migraine. Like many other observers (including the late Dr. Simmons Lessell), Airy was unable to say with certainty whether both eyes were affected. He later stated that he "entertain[ed] no doubt that the seat of the disease is the brain."[1-3] We present an illustration of migrainous visual aura with transient homonymous hemianopia captured on Humphrey Visual Field (HVF) testing in a patient aware only of visual symptoms in one eye at the time of HVF.
