(USAF photo) Army onor Green River Physician GREEN RIVER-Army personnel of White Sands Missile j Range's Green River launch complex recently honored their contract physician for what has been termed "his outstanding and willing service." The physician, Dr. Hugh Thomas Barton of Green River, was given a Lichtenberg figure and a plastic enclosed piece of "trinitite" by , the White Sands personnel as j tokens of their esteem. A. Dr. Barton has been contract physician for on-site medical care of Armed Forces personnel and emergency medical treatment of i civil service and contract person- j nel at Green River since the site I was first opened in 1963. The Lichtenberg figure is a piece ! of plastic erradiated with electrons from the linear accelerator ' at White Sands. The electron charge creates an intricate figure resembling a tree in the plastic. It is often called a Lichtenberg tree in honor of the scinetist who ; discovered the process. Trinitite, on the other hand, is" a piece*of fused silica-sand resulting from the first atomic explosion at Trinity Site in New Mexico. |
