I n l i e r s of " P e r m i a n unnamed f o r m a t i o n " a r e e x p o s e d i n t h i s a r e a w h e re e r o s i o n h a s r e m o v e d t h e G r a n d e u r . A m e a s u r e d s e c t i o n in t h e c l i f f s w e s t of S u l p h u r S p r i n g showed t h e u n i t t o be 419 f e e t t h i c k . The t h i c k n e s s d o e s n o t a p p e a r t o v a r y s i g n i f i c a n t l y o v e r i t s e x t e n t i n t h e c e n t r a l and n o r t h e r n C e d ar M o u n t a i n s . Where t h e G r a n d e u r Member h a s e r o d e d t o form s t e e p e s c a r p m e n t s , i t p r e s e n t s two m a s s i v e c l i f f s s e p a r a t e d by a r e l a t i v e l y t h i n , s l o p e - f o r m i n g u n i t composed of d o l o s t o n e and c h e r t ( P i g . 1 1 ). The l o w e r c o n t a c t of t h e G r a n d e u r i s w e l l e x p o s ed w h e r e t h e member f o r m s s t e e p c l i f f s west of S u l p h u r S p r i ng a n d was c h o s e n a t t h e b a s e of a m e d i u m - g r a y , b i o c l a s t ic l i m e s t o n e c o n t a i n i n g g r a y and l i g h t brown c h e r t . The f a i r l y s t e e p r a n g e f r o n t a l o n g t h e w e s t f a c e of S k u n k R i d g e , c o n s i d e r e d w i t h t h e o b l i q u e o r i e n t a t i o n of f o ld a x e s , s u g g e s t s a b l o c k f a u l t w e s t of Skunk R i d g e . The s t r i k e - s l i p movement of t h e S t r a i g h t Canyon F a u l t c o u l d a c c o u n t f o r t h e t r u n c a t e d f o l d a x e s of Skunk R i d g e . However, i t seems l i k e l y t h a t l a t e r n o r m a l f a u l t d i s p l a c e m e n t d e v e l o p e d on a n o r t h e r n e x t e n s i o n of t h e S t r a i g h t Canyon F a u l t.
