(3) Stem transects For each treatment (inside & out) we picked two spots that fell in between traplines. From this initial starting point, we ran 4 transects (18 meters each). We counted the number of stems of woody plants/trees by type (e.g., aspen, sage, cercocarpus) encountered along the rope and within 0.5 meter to each side. A GPS reading is taken at each starting point.
