"Movie Night" is a film about a woman with a haunting fear that her sexuality, or lack thereof, might harm a new relationship. The first scene presents how a lack of representation in media can lead to certain standards and stereotypes, and by putting an alternative in this film itself, I seek to provide a space for asexual individuals who find themselves outside of those conventional spaces and ideals. The main character's fear of unacceptance is visualized through the asexual flag which follows her as a physical reminder of how her identity conflicts with what her partner may be expecting and the conversation they will have to have if they are to continue. This thesis explores the process of conceptualizing, writing, and transforming this story into its visual form. |
