Spring 1996, No. 8 Marriott Library, University of Utah Editor: Mike Korologos `Re-Run' Down Memory Lane by Mike Korologos Contents o Rerun o Ski Patrol o Membership . UTES o New Board It was just like the good old days, only better. It was nostalgia personified by the likes of Terry Morris, Jan Peterson, Jim Gaddis, Alan Engen, Ray and Dale Miller, Matias Alvarez, Robbie Beck McHugh, Larry Higgins, Barbara Amidon, Don Irvine, John Hoagland, Clark Parkinson, Karen Korfanta and Michelle Wilson. It was fun. It was part party, part compe- tition , part reunion. It was the brainchild of Bob Marsh, racing guru of the Park City Ski Area. And it was heartily welcomed and supported by the University of Utah Ski Archives Program whose mission is to locate, catalog and make available the skiing history of the area via the U.`s Marriott Library. This was history live from slope-side. It was staged Saturday, March 30, at the Park Participants in `Re-Run' `95 City Ski Area, which provided discounted lift passes. It was called "Re-run of Your Life" and featured the skiing greats, the also-rans, the officials, the parents, the kids and grand- kids of the one-time ski racers and officials who established the foundation of today's fine ski racing program. Some 125 gathered in the Park City sunshine to reminisce and to relive the glory years of past junior ski racing championships, Knudsen Cup high school gatherings, Snow Cup titles, Olympic Games races, NCAA competitions and pee-wee trophies. The early 1950s dominated the roll call sign-up sheet. Most of those competitors also raced during the `6Os, `7Os, `SOS, even the `90s and the "rerun" - slower times through the gates be damned. The gate-slappin' , tuck totin' form was still there, as was the compet- itive heart. (continued on back page) Highlight of the day was the photo session. Never a bashful bunch, this group posed and smiled endlessly - tummies sucked in, chests popped out. Barbara Amidon and Joe Arave of the U.`s Ski Archives Program piqued lots of memories with a fine display of scrapbooks and other memorabilia to the delight of the sun-kissed, nostalgia-bent revelers who relished running the "Re-Run" down memory lane. Hope is this event becomes an annual soiree. Surely it deserves such a fate and surely more will gather in subsequent sessions. The first such session is already scheduled for April 5, at Park City Ski Area! Plan now to be there! There's also the possibility this spring-skiing session becomes the on-mountain equivalent of the annual "Ski Affair" fund-raising awards dinner staged annually in October by the Ski Archives program. Special thanks to sponsoring Jan's of Park City, the Park City Ski Area, Domino's Pizza, Coca-Cola, Wasatch Beer, Neil Rossmiller Photography, Marker Ski Co, among others.
