Creator Friends of the Ski Archives
Subject Skis and Skiing--Periodicals; Skiing--Utah--History
Description The Utah Ski and Snowboard Archives is one of the most comprehensive collections in the entire country for research into the history and development of Utah's prospering winter sports industry. The archives document the history of ski competition on local, national, and international levels; the founding of major resorts; snow safety and avalanche control; ski equipment; ski instruction; freestyle skiing; the 10th Mountain Division; back-country skiing; and virtually every facet of winter sports in Utah and the surrounding region. The archives are the repository for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics Games Bid Committee records and the records of the 2002 games themselves.

UTES SKI TO 2ND Just when you thought the University of Utah Utes were going to rise up and beat the Buffaloes of Colorado University, the slalom competition got in the way and proved to be the deciding point again in the NCAA cham- pionships in Vermont. Last year the University of Utah Men and Women Ski teams came in second to the University of Vermont. Coming in second to Buffaloes was nothing new for the Utes-they did it six times this season. Going into the slalom event Utah enjoyed a 30 point lead over the Buffaloes. For the women, Christ1 Hager placed second, the only Ute in the top 19. Utah's Mark Elvidge fin- ished for the men in the top 24. After the slalom, Utah trailed. In the final day of competition, Utah's strongest event, the cross country technical data, was yet to come. Strong showings by Heidi Selnes, and Thomas Weman, signifi- cantly cut into CU's lead. Even though the Utes won five out of the eight events and came closer than any other meet this year, they fell narrowly short of cap- turing a ninth National Championship. 4
