This report, Utah's Vital Statistics: Marriages and Divorces, 1999 and 2000, is published by the Office of Vital Records and Statistics, Utah Department of Health. Its purpose is to provide a consistent and convenient data resource for planners, students, researchers, public officials, private business and the general public. The summary tables of this report contain trends and historical data for both Utah and the United States. However, starting in 1996 detailed data1 on marriages and divorces were not collected from the states participating in the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program. The 1994 data year is the last publication of the "Annual Summary of Births, Marriages, Divorces, and Deaths: United States (Year)" of the Monthly Vital Statistics Report series referenced in this report. The national data for 1996 through 1998 is obtained from the "Births, Marriages, Divorces, and Deaths for December 1998". Because the detailed data for the U.S. is no longer available, there are Summary Tables in this report that compare detailed data for Utah and the U.S. that cannot be updated.
