Subject Papilledema, Venous Sinus Thrombosis, Acute Promyeloeytic Leukemia
Description APML, an AML subtype, has been recognized for a tendency of catastrophic hemorrhage. Thrombosis, an uncommon complication of APML, can manifest in the venous sinuses (VST). Generally, thrombosis is reported following all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) treatment, which is prothrombotic likely from altered eytolcine production. ATRA has dramatically transformed APML's prognosis from one of the most fatal to the most curable AML subtype, by accelerating differentiation of promyeloeytes to mature neutrophils and resolving the coagulopathy. This is a case ofAPML presenting with papilledema secondary to VST. The etiology of the VST was from APML's natural coagulopathic course and not from ATRA treatment.
