Polk & Co., of Utah. All Rights Reserved. EX P LA N A T O R Y . Numbering of Houses. The street system of Salt Lake City is original. The Temple Block is taken as the center. The beginning of all regular streets is the southeast corner of the Temple Block (Brigham Young Monument). The streets running north, east, south and w est of this block are North Temple, Main, (or East Tem ple), South Temple, and W est Temple, respectively. The next streets north, east, south and w est p ar allel w7ith the above named streets are F irst North, State (or First E ast), First South and F irst W est, resp ect ively, and so ¡on in regular order o f numbering to the limits of the city, all the eig£t rod streets. The narrow er streets in the northeast ern section of the city are named as fol lows: Commencing on the north side of South Temple street, the first street ru n ning north (east of State stree t), is A street, the second parallel therewith, B street, the next C, and so on to the east ern lim its of the city. The same system of streets at right angles w ith the above are numbered: The first street north and parallel w ith South Temple street being First avenue, the next Second avenue, and so on to the northern limits of the city. In blocks of 660 feet there is allowed 100 numbers to the block. Blocks of 330 feet have fifty numbers. Center street and other streets running northerly and southerly in Plat “E,” have1one number to each rod of frontage. Re-naming of Streets, In 1907 a number of streets w ere r e named, the following rules being observed: All streets less than 132 feet .running east and w est are called avenues. All duplicate names of streets are abol ished. All combinations of streets having d if ferent names from the original street are made to correspond in name.
