Description The purpose of this study is to examine historical M&A transactions to understand the factors that in fluence the probability of a transaction successfully closing, for the purpose of using the information to more effectively execute a merger arbitrage strategy. The probability of success is studied in relation to length of time between announcement and closing, transaction value, horizontal transaction's influence on its industry's HHI, and implied market consensus. There is currently no research available that attempts to understand the influences on M&A transaction success. Thus, the goal of this research paper is to in the undergraduate research community to further study the subject matter. The project provides a broad range of valuable information and leads from which to base further in-depth study.
