White Women's Racial Identity Development in Organizing Spaces

The purpose of this research was to understand how white women go through the process; of building a white racial identity in grassroots community organizing spaces. Through one-on-one interviews and one focus group, I collected qualitative data for this small-scale phenomenological research project. The data collected aligned closely with Janet Helms's six existing stages of white racial identity development and suggest that further stages of identity development are necessary to adequately capture the process of racial identity formation among white women.
