Bigotry pervades our daily lives and the idea of a patriot has drastically changed. Since the beginning of our recent political turbulence, jingoism has become prevalent, while sexism and racism follow a growing trend of prejudice. Delineating said jingoism through research and media is a powerful means to portray how chauvinistic bigotry is perpetuated in contemporary America. However, using art to depict those biases can be stronger in reaching a wider audience as opposed to an esoteric research paper. In that, this project is a screenplay and meant to be the foundation for a feature film, one that is driven by both racial inclinations and American phobia for ideas different from their own; overall, it is a story about baseless, American fears. This work thus aims to question several aspects of radical conservative thought and how absurd those ideologies can be through a narrative that explores America through the lenses of a foreigner, one that America strongly rejects: a North Korean. By using action and dialogue that have become almost commonplace in America, the work will aim to shake those understandings to delineate the common and ignorant prejudice present in our own actions and speech. The project itself will span around 120 pages. The work is based on Critical Race Theory with research on the theory serving as the thesis' foundation, while exploring the effectiveness of media. The primary means of illustration will hence be through comparison between characters in order to emphasize ignorant stereotypes and microaggressions, as well as the dogmatic ideologies of radical conservatism . This work, however, is not an all-applicable work; rather, it is a perspective rooted in fear for the future of the country, one that is not concrete, but always fluid and changing. |
