Abstract | Many furnaces which perform heat treatment in the reducing or non-oxidizing atmosphere employ an indirect heating method. When gas fuel is burnt in the radiant tube in general, high-load combustion in a limited space is required, and burners using ordinary radiant tubes had the following defects: (1) High emission of NO in exhaust gas (2) Loud combustion noise in the limited space (3) Uneven combustion is caused in the length direction of the radiant tube, thereby reducing the tube life. (4) Poor mixing of the fuel gas with combustion air prevents low-air-ratio combustion. (5) Stabilized flame formation is difficult, preventing stabilized combustion at low turn-down. To overcome these defects of ordinary burners, Chiba Works, Kawasaki Steel Corporation developed a new-type radiant-tube-using burner, which is now actually used by many furnaces for burning fuel gases ranging from highcalory gases (LPG and LNG) to low calory gases (such as a mixed gas of coke oven gas and blast furnace gas). This paper reports the outline of the newly-developed burner (KS-2 Burner) and its combustion characteristics. |
