Show 34 "Let me give you more." "I won't take it." "Why?" "Because I won't take any more." The rain was freezing again on the windshield. Hunt stopped the car, got out, and scraped it off. His face looked flat and inconstant to Leah through the glass. There were road crews and they were sanding, tossing out salt. "But you can't take a bus to anywhere and find sleep, find lodging for ten dollars!" Hunt was shaking his head, running his free hand through his hair. "I have ways," Leah said. And she squeezed the quilt that was in her lap. "What? What ways?" "Ways," Leah told him. The streets of Concord were white and glossy. And the cars parked there all seemed crusted over with salt. "Where's the terminal?" Hunt asked Leah. "It said South Main Street." "Which end?" "I don't know. You can just let me out here." |
