Celebrate the gift of love this February by experiencing cultural objects that tell the story of love. Many cultures around the world celebrate love and friendship, such as Dia de/ Amor y la Amistad in Guatemala, Giri-choko and Tomo-chok in China, Tanabata in Japan, Sevgililer Giinii in Turkey and Sepandarmazgan in Iran. We have a few objects in the teacher resource center that will help you teach the importance of showing the people you care about how you feel. Checkout our Tanabata Dolls and tell the Japanese love story of Orihime and Hikoboshi who reunite only once a year by crossing the Milky Way. Talk about symbols of love by borrowing the Chinese Cloisonne Ducks or the Mexican sculpture Dancing Skeletons. Or discuss wedding rituals from around the world, using a Navajo Wedding Vase or African Suku Cup. We will begin offering the podcasts for downloading and the mp3 players for borrowing i_n mid-February. The first podcasts will focus on the exhibition Splendid Heritage: Perspectives on American Indian Art. • parking Take TRAX to the UMFA!
