In other words, the larger subject headings are indexed as if they were a mini-index within itself. For example, the Deir Yassin Massacre would be indexed: 1. 2. under the subject heading of Deir Yassin Massacre, under the subject heading of Israel as the sub-heading Deir Yassin Massacre and as a "sub-sub-heading" under the sub-heading Massacre. i.e. Israel Deir Yassin Massacre Massacre Deir Yassin 3. under the subject heading Massacre as the sub-heading Deir Yassin Massacre. But, under smaller subject headings, subjects were not cross-referenced; i.e. Deir Yassin Massacre is only listed as a sub-heading under Massacre and not as a "sub-subheading" under Israel. |
